In the event of inclement weather on meet days, announcements regarding whether or not the meet will proceed will be made on the deck. All swimmers should report to the meet; decisions are made by meet officials in real time.
We will post updates on Facebook and Twitter (@TwinbrookDucks). The feed shows up on our homepage, too.
Time Trials: June
Time Trials take place at Twinbrook Pool in June. Every swimmer swims as many events as possible to get baseline times used for seeding swimmers at A and B meets during the season.
During meets, faster seed times are placed in center lanes, and when there are multiple heats of the same event, slower swimmers go first followed by faster swimmers. Recording seed times at the beginning of the season has a great benefit—you can watch your progress!
A MEETS: June and July
All A meets are on Saturdays unless otherwise noted.
The five A Meets on weekend mornings are competitions against the other teams in Division M of the MCSL (Montgomery County Swim League, www.mcsl.org). There are forty individual events, four relay events, and six individual medley events. The meet scores are part of the official record used by MCSL to calculate which teams remain in their division or move up/down to another division.
A Meets start at 9:00 a.m. (with warm-ups around 8:15 or 8:30 a.m.) and end at about noon. We gather back at Twinbrook Pool after the meet for a parent-organized lunch and ribbon awards.
B MEETS: June and July
There will be four B meets during the season this year. The purpose of B meets is to allow swimmers to challenge themselves in events that a little harder for them or in which they lack confidence, and for newer swimmers to get accustomed to the competition of an A meet. B meets are run exactly like A meets, but the scores do not count toward our league standing. B meets are held on Wednesday evenings, and often include kickboard races for our pre-team swimmers!
Tips for Successful Meets
- Sleep. Apply sunscreen. Drink water.
- Figure out what makes your stomach and body happy before a meet. Many swimmers feel good eating a good breakfast before Saturday meets, and others find that they feel better waiting until after their event(s) to eat. Let's avoid that last-minute anxiety by waiting to eat treats until after you swim.
- Make sure you arrive at the meet in time for the warm-up (we'll announce that time before each meet). The warm-up helps you loosen up, get a feel for the water and get acquainted with the pool (flag distance for backstroke, what the wall feels/looks like for turns).
- Ask the Coach, an Assistant Coach or a parent in charge for help if you need it.
- Have a great time and enjoy all of the cheering for you during your event! Give it your best effort and feel the satisfaction.
